As fellow New Yorkers, we want to remind you of the upcoming deadline to re-register for savings through the basic STAR exemption. The STAR exemption is a New York State school tax relief program which uses state income tax dollars to pay for a portion of your school taxes. Signing up for the STAR exemption is simple and free. This is an opportunity for Long Islanders to finally get some of their hard earned income tax dollars back from Albany. The savings you receive through the STAR exemption will be a fixed amount off of your school taxes and will be above and beyond any savings that Tax Reduction Services may achieve by filing a grievance on your behalf. Tax Reduction Services will never bill you for any portion of any exemption. We only bill you for a reduction in assessment.
Applying for the STAR exemption is and always should be FREE. This is something you can easily do yourself. You should never pay a service to complete the STAR application for you.
