DON'T PAY MORE TAX THAN YOU SHOULD - LET TRS HELP

Your property taxes are supposed to be based on the market value of your home, but the town's assessment of your home's value may be wrong, especially if real estate values have gone down. If your assessment is too high, you are paying more tax than you should.

You have the right to challenge your unfair assessment through the tax grievance process. Since the tax grievance process is complicated and time-consuming, many property owners choose to have an experienced agent represent them - just as they might choose to have an accountant prepare their income tax returns.

At TRS, we handle every step of the process for you, from beginning to end. We do a free analysis of your property and, once you sign up with us, we prepare all the papers, make all the phone calls, and go to all the conferences and hearings.

We start by filing the grievance on Grievance Day - The one day each year when assessments may officially be challenged. Next we file the Small Claims Assessment Review (SCAR) petition, which requires a $30 filing fee. If we have determined that you have a case, we pay this fee for you and are reimbursed only if your assessment is reduced. Our team, which includes licensed appraisers and realtors, prepares an appraisal of your property. There is no upfront charge for this; we are reimbursed ($50) only if your assessment is reduced. We then argue your case with the assessor in conference or at a hearing.

You have nothing to lose. No fee is due TRS unless your assessment is reduced. If your assessment is reduced, you pay TRS one-half of the first year's savings and reimburse us for the filing fee and appraisal. Every year after that, the savings are all yours.

NO REDUCTION = NO FEE
